Golfing At The Breakers
After lunch we went downstairs, through the club house and gift shop, to where our golf cart was waiting for us with top-of-the-line rentals. Marshall, the golf marshall, gave us a few pointers before we were off on the famed Ocean Course. We only played nine holes, but we had so much fun. The setting is just gorgeous and the course is so well-kept it's scary. Warning: the greens are really fast; I missed an easy birdie putt on my final and best hole.
DID YOU KNOW: The Ocean Course is Florida's oldest 18-hole course? To accommodate golfers at the Palm Beach Inn (which was the original Breakers) and Royal Poinciana, Henry Flagler contracted Alexander H. Findlay to build the first 9 holes of golf in Florida. It was originally laid out by Findlay in 1896, and completely redesigned by famed golf course architect Brian Silva in 2000.
