WEBSITE OF THE WEEK

    WEBSITE OF THE WEEK
  • WeChoosetheMoon.org

  • July 20, 1969 has always been a special day for me, not just because it was when man first walked on the moon but because it was also the day of my christening. I could never forget this day because growing up, I had a silver piggy bank with the date engraved on it and every time I went to exchange the coins for cold hard cash, my mom would always tell me about how they had a huge party at our house in Connecticut and it was pouring rain so everyone gathered around our black and white television to watch Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin make history. In honor of that day, I thought we would feature a pretty cool website that tracks the Apollo 11 moon mission in real time, so viewers can chronicle the four-day historic odyssey exactly as it occurred from liftoff on July 16 to landing on July 20. There’s original mission audio, authentic photos, videos and more. BTW: I had the honor of meeting Buzz Aldrin last year at LAX when I took Emirates’ inaugural A380 flight. I wished my mom was there. She would have given him a big hug and probably would have told me to shave that thing off my face.

    BONUS WEBSITE OF THE WEEK
  • MelissaSingleInTheCity.com

  • I’m a huge fan of independent travel blogs (they are like the non-chain bookstores of the Internet) and one that I’ve been meaning to feature for a while now is melissasinglegalinthecity.com. It’s by Melissa Braverman, a native New Yorker who blogs daily on life in the Big Apple and she includes everything from dating to where to go for wine tasting.

    TRAVEL PRODUCT OF THE WEEK
  • Jetlag Formula

  • I’ve never been a person to take medicine (except medication for my asthma) and I don’t even take Ambien when I fly on long haul flights, though perhaps I should because I would sleep so much better. But I’m afraid that if there’s an emergency and I need to act quickly, I won’t be able to, or I would be unable to assist if the flight crew needs my help restraining a passenger. I know it’s silly, but it’s just me. Chances are, you’re probably the opposite of me so you might be interested in this capsule version of Jet Lag Formula. This concoction was developed by an acupuncturist and herbalist and it’s supposed to reduce the effects of jetlag. I’ve heard that it works so try it out and give us your feedback. BTW: How much do you need? One box ($20) or bottle ($16) of Jet Lag Formula is sufficient for a round-trip domestic flight; for international travel, you need one box or bottle during each leg of your journey.

    TRAVEL VIDEO OF THE WEEK
  • Australia’s Comedy Channel impersonating a Qantas flight attendant

  • Since I’m writing about Australia this week, now is the perfect time to feature an Australian travel video. It’s from Australia’s Comedy Channel and the host Pam Ann plays a Qantas flight attendant doing the safety demonstration. I personally didn’t find it that funny but thousands of others on YouTube did so maybe you will, too. P.S. Thanks to reader and Tahiti specialist Jean-Louis Delezenne for sending it in. If you come across any travel videos that you think we should feature, please send them in!
