Did you see the movie The Holiday where Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet's characters swap homes? That movie became one of the inspirations for Luxe Home Swap (luxehomeswap.com) where members (membership fee: $159 a year) can swap homes as many times as they like without any additional fees. Depending on what you work out with the incoming guests home owners can even exchange cars, children's toys/gear and even pets so you don't have to pay for boarding. The homes aren't necessarily mansions as they can vary in size but they do have to be what the site describes as “proud” homes and in desirable locations from Los Angeles to London, Barbados to Bali. If you don't mind taking the obvious risks, it's a great way to save a ton of money on your next vacation. If you do participate, please let us know about your experience.
This past week The Huffington Post launched a travel section, aptly named HuffPost Travel. The section is sponsored by Starwood and is edited by Kate Auletta. The Huffington Post, created by Arianna Huffington, said, "Some of my happiest -- and most enriching -- moments have come through travel." The Huff Post has a brilliant business model - get some of the best writers in the world and instead of paying them cash, give them a byline so they can drive traffic to their own website or sell their latest book. Of course, the section has some helpful articles including one that I'm featured in called "Favorite iPhone Apps of The Global Glitterati" but I hope you still research and book all your travel needs on JohnnyJet.com.
