JOHNNY
JET?<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Greetings and Happy New Year from Palm Beach!
I ended year 2000 on the road (I continued to stay away from CT for the
pain would be too tough). I left you last week in Erie, there I went to
a cool after Christmas Party with my Sister, Dad, and met a Magician
from L.A. It was sooo cold in Erie that the lake
froze, and I probably could've walked across to Canada (30 miles).
To get out of Erie I took the Greyhound bus back to Cleveland (in another
snow storm). Hey, it cost $13, and only takes an hour forty. I know if
I keep taking Greyhound, they might change my name to Johnny "Bus".
I spent the night in Cleveland with Amber, and
got up early for our flight to Chicago. Check out one of the longest Security
lines I have encountered (good thing I wasn't in a hurry).
From O'Hare we took the Train
(CTA) to the city, it was sooo cold on the train that it
was literally snowing (the doors weren't completely shut). We did
get warmed up though, and my cousins
cooked us an awesome meal.
The next day I knew I had enough of Chicago,
and went to the airport with a "buddy pass". It was pretty cool, because
with this pass you can go anywhere for a fraction of the cost. I
just looked at the destination screen and said to myself where do I want
to go today (unfortunately, I couldn't go any where International because
I didn't have my passport). I decided my first choice was to visit my Dad
and sister in Palm Beach, FL. All of the flights to Florida were
oversold, and with the buddy pass it's stand by only. I couldn't
get on the flight to West Palm or to Ft. Lauderdale, but out of luck
they called my name for the Miami flight. I was the last person on the
plane, and the gate agent told me to hurry up on, and to take any
open seat I could find. I thought for sure I was going to be in a middle
seat, but to my surprise I got my favorite coach seat, bulk head aisle!.
I sat next to some cool
people from Chicago. The good news is that flight cost me about
$60, the bad news is: I didn't accrue any miles :-(.
I didn't have any transportation set up, and
all of the rental cars in FL were sold out, but I learned of a brand new
cheap way to get to Palm Beach. "Take the Plane to the Train" (or vice
versa)! It's called the TRI-RAIL!
You can get a shuttle bus right outside the terminal, it's free and takes
2 minutes to the train stop. From there it takes almost 2 hours to West
Palm Beach, stopping about 15 times, including the Ft. Lauderdale airport.
It was clean, safe, and it cost only $5.50! How awesome is that?.
It's a good thing I came down here, because my
sister was very busy with her kids, and my Dad was continuing his world-wide
hospital tour. The man is turning into a cluts! This time he tripped on
a step by the pool and broke his wrist. I had to rush him to the hospital
and be his ears again, huh?, that's right.
I talked Amber into coming down and we took my
Dad to dinner on New Year's at the Breakers
Hotel. My Dad's nickname is Fred Flintstone,
and he really played the part eating this brontosaurus burger with a broken
wrist.

TIP OF
THE WEEK:
By Chris
McGinnis
Use Frequent Flier Miles to "Buy" High-Priced
Tickets
Using your frequent flier miles to around high fares is getting more
difficult. For example, Continental now requires a Saturday night stayover
when redeeming the basic 25,000-mile reward for a free round trip. If you
want to travel in midweek or during a "blackout" period, you'll have to
redeem closer to 40,000 miles. With frequent flier miles roughly valued
at about 2 cents each, it only makes sense to redeem 40,000 miles if the
fare you would otherwise pay exceeds about $800.

Airline Changes in 2001
The cost of airline tickets may be rising but, in many cases, the airlines
are also upgrading the options and amenites available to travelers. Here
are some changes in store for 2001:
--British Airways' three-class cabin will become the world's only four-class
cabin as it phases in an intermediate class called World Traveler Plus.
--Scandinavian Airlines System will enhance its business class next
year when it adds a class between business and coach on its long-distance
flights. The third class will be an upgraded economy class. - June Sandercock
