JET?<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Greetings from the chilly (it's all relative) West
Coast. Highlights from this week: Amber and I had our first Valentines
Day together, and we celebrated it in NYC a day early, so we could take
my Dad
out on the 14th because it was his first Valentines Day without my Mom in
53 years. We started our day off by taking a stroll through Central
Park. The park is awesome and is a great escape from the busy city.
We walked by Wollman
Ice Rink, and decided to go for a skate.
Have you ever gone ice skating there? It's a lot of fun, but my advice to
you is bring your own skates. They rent the cheapest pair of figure
skates you have ever seen or felt (my feet were KILLING ME after
two laps). It's not too expensive either, they charged $23 for 2 people,
skates and a locker. After massaging my feet for an hour, we went down Fifth
Avenue and window shopped until we came upon Tiffany's (oh brother, that's
trouble). I offered to go in because I know how women love Tiffany's.
I escaped without too much of a dent in my pocket. You all know those
little blue boxes make women act silly.
I was back and fourth from the city to Connecticut
often and usually took the train. The train is sanest way and chances are
I will run into friends
(FYI: that's not smoke in that picture, it's my breath. In the picture is
my Dad with Jenny and Lyn Gaylord)
at the R.R. station, and that's always nice because it makes the trip go
by much quicker.
What else happened this week? Oh yeah! I got a new roommate. Kevin
moved in last night and I don't really know him so in case you recognize
him from the Americas Most Wanted, please email me A.S.A.P. (He seems
like a really cool guy though, and he is single for all you ladies out there).
Oh I almost forgot!
WE GOT PRESS
THIS WEEK! It was written by one of my favorite travel writers; Joe
Brancatelli
I also have an airport story for you. This week or last I read this piece
by Joe and it was in the back of mind:
Anyone remember the rationale United and Delta
used when they started installing those hateful baggage templates? They
claimed reducing the size of carry-on bags would lead to better on-time
performance. So how come Delta finished 4th and United dead last in on-time
performance for the year 2000? And how come Continental, which is opposed
to templates and has the most liberal carry-on rules, finished with the
nation's best on-time performance?
After flying from White Plains, NY (HPN) to ORD (Chicago) (BTW: you need
to know your airport codes, how else can you tell where your bag is being
checked to?). I spent a night in Chicago and went to the airport with Amber.
We were putting our bags on the x-ray machine and I see her lifting the
template to make her bag go through smoother. She had no problem, so I decided
to do that too. Big mistake! These two ladies jumped on me, and said "OH
NO YOU DON'T, BLAH BLAH and BLAH." The way they attacked me had my
blood flowing (as you know I am usually one of the nicest people in the
airport). I was infuriated. All I did was lift it a millimeter because
I didn't feel like squashing my bag down (which they made me do anyway).
I just felt like SCREAMING to the ladies IF THESE TEMPLATES ARE SUPPOSED
TO WORK THEN WHY DID........., but I took a deep breath and said with a
smile... have a wonderful day.

TIP OF THE WEEK:
By Chris

Know How to Use Business Cards
How many times have you heard people say, "Bring lots of business cards"?
It's true, a business card is an essential tool at any large meeting. Here
are some tips for using them.
- Stay organized. Reserve one pocket for "inbound" cards from new contacts.
Upon getting a new card, write a few words describing the nature of your
meeting on the back. This will prove helpful when writing your follow-up
notes.
- Reserve another pocket for "outbound" cards--your own. Never mix inbound
and outbound cards. It looks unprofessional to fish through a stack of
other cards for one of your own.
- Tip for women: Many business suits have few or no pockets. In this
case, use your plastic name-badge holder as a card holder: keep a supply
of your business cards ticked behind the badge.
- If you travel frequently to the same country or region, have your business
information printed in thits predominant language on the reverse side
of your card.
