I finally got on a plane! Phew...... I was starting to go through
withdrawals.
It was a marathon day on Easter Sunday. We actually had Easter dinner
the night before at my Aunt's house in San Pedro. She made a great
meal, then we all colored easter eggs while watching the final four.
We got home late and Amber talked me into getting up at 5am, yes FIVE AM,
so we could go to sunrise service in Palos Verdes. I can understand
getting up early for mass, but when it's a 30 minute drive- that's another
thing. She said it was speciaI. She's right (did I just admit she's right?)
I mean how often do you get to attend the famous Wayfarers Chapel that
was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright? This popular tiny
chapel made of all glass is located on a bluff overlooking Catalina
Island and the pacific coast. No wonder why this is one of the most
popular places to get married in LA. On a clear day the views are truly
amazing. It had all the settings to be a glorious morning except
for the weather. It was foggy, cold, and damp. BTW: Did I mention
we had no idea it was
outside? It was special
alright...... especially cold.
Cruised back home along PCH and packed our bags and we were off to the
airport. I was a good boy this time arriving 90 minutes before the
flight. I skipped the 1K line and headed straight for one of those
automated easy check-in machines. They are pretty nifty and you can even
check bags. Just pop in your mileage card or credit card and follow
the prompts. If you have trouble there are agents roving around to help.
It took about 90 seconds to get my boarding pass. Then off to security...The
First Class/Premier security check point did not have one person in line,
not one. The regular security lines only had 10 people. I can tell you
one thing for sure, more people would be flying if security lines could
be this smooth all the time.
The flight was excellent, even with the hour and a half delay. I didn't
care, I wasn't in a hurry and besides it allowed me to spend some time
chatting with the crew ( I brought them chocolate Easter bunnies), took
a tour of the cockpit with other passengers, and hung out with Marc
my all-time favorite gate agent who was working our gate.
That my friend was the last picture ever taken with my Kodak digital camera. It died after that; what a bummer. Don't worry I had backup! I never travel without my $9 disposable camera and I used it for the rest of the trip. After the 4 hour and 35 minute flight to JFK my brother surprised us with a stretch limo that he just bought with some of his buddies. Nice friends huh? This thing was phat, and it made sitting in traffic fun.
It's always great to come home and spend some quality time with my Dad and the rest of the family. I was also able to squeeze in a couple of "business meetings", and attend my little nephew's 3 year old b-day party. More about them next week when I can show some pictures.
One last note: The big controversy in NY this week is that the Yankees are not on Cablevision anymore which means nobody can watch them unless they have Direct TV. Can you believe that? I travel 2,500 miles thinking I am going to be able to sit back and watch my beloved Yanks crush the O's on opening day. NOPE! Cablevision doesn't want to pay the YES Networks fee to broadcast the Yanks. It's just as well because the Yanks got crushed and it would've been more painful to see it than listening to them on the radio.

Tips For Packing:
No wrinkles-keep clothes wrinkle free by "rolling" articles in dry-cleaning
bags when packing.
Don't forget to pack those breakable items like shampoo in plastic
baggies prior packing - if they break you will be spared a mess!
