>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>WHERE'S JOHNNY JET?<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
What a week!  I left you last in Miami and I think I left my wallet there too.  Damn it's expensive, but that's South Beach.  My adventures began when my cousin AJ and I flew South on Continental.  The two half hour flight went by quickly, probably because I chatting with the Flight Attendants, and was looking around.  I noticed that CO does NOT have a row 13, do all airplanes? I have to find that out. I always thought hotels were the only superstitious ones, but I guess I was wrong (I learn something new every time I fly).  We landed at MIA and  rented from Hertz Gold (you should use one of these express services too, a good travel agent can get the membership fee waived). This is how easy it is to rent a car. We went from the plane to the Hertz bus, gave the driver our name and viola! They dropped us off in front of our car with the trunk popped and the car running, not bad huh? We cruised 25 miles North to Ft. Lauderdale where we checked into our first hotel. What was great about this hotel was that it was a Double Tree (being on the Inter coastal didn't hurt). DT is a Hilton partner which means you can double dip (Hotel Points and Airline Miles). The kicker is just the other day Hilton sent me a letter stating that I was going to lose my Gold VIP status if I didn't stay at two of their properties by June.  After getting settled in, AJ and I drove around the corner to Lulu's bait shack in the Marriott hotel (It's in an outdoor mall). If you didn't realize AJ brings out the kid in me (He's such a sucker standing in front of signs so I can take funny pictures). The atmosphere is awesome at Lulu's, but the food is really awful. They do have one of the craziest games I have ever seen. You know the game with the digging crane? The one you try and grab cheap stuffed animals/toys, and by the time you finally get one you've gone through $20? Anyway, they have the same game except it cost $2.00 and it's not filled with stuffed animals/toys, your trying to grab LIVE Maine Lobsters in water.  Pretty sick, huh?
The  reason we were in FL was to see our client who's in the play Cinderella and recording her debut album.  If you haven't seen the play try to. It's in NYC for 2 weeks, then PIT, SAN, LAX, SEA, PHX, PDX, and Dallas. I was really impressed with Ft. Lauderdale (It's not that crazy place I used to go to ten years ago for spring break.).  F.L. actually has some culture!  They have an awesome theater and fine restaurants along the river walk. Fort Lauderdale was nice and all, but it was time to drive thirty minutes to where the excitement is: South Beach.  We checked into the popular (and pricey) Delano Hotel. This fine hotel is run by the same people who have the Mondrian in L.A. (and others). The Delano is hip. Almost too hip for some people. Everything is all white, plain and simple. I took a picture of our hotel room to give you a better feel.
Pretty bland, huh? The  bathroom is not much better. I hate showers that aren't completely enclosed. Don't they realize the water is going to go everywhere? If you are planning on hooking up to the internet, make sure you are aware of the $1.00 connection fee (which is typical)  and the additional .5 cents a minute fee  (what a joke). Good thing I checked before I connected. Luckily I was able to talk the manager into waiving the fees (you can too, just be firm and tell him Johnny Jet told you). This hotel grew on me, within a few hours and a stroll around the pool I didn't want to leave. The pool is amazing, 78 degrees, floats, cabana's and not to mention topless models hanging out. The  Delano also has a great workout room, that brings in a  pretty diverse clientele (I was surprised they don't charge). To top it off the food in the hotel was excellent.
Nightlife in Miami, where do I begin?  There is too much to cover so I will just share with you what we did. We were only there a night so we made reservations at the world famous BED. That's right you eat in Bed. Obviously, you need to take your shoes off, so make sure your feet are nice and clean otherwise you are going to bum your guests out. My advice to you is try and be one of the first people in your party to get to your table, I mean bed. If you don't get a wall for back support your going to be miserable.  If your wondering how you eat at this place, it's simple, like this.  Bed is amazing! They have three seatings 8:30pm, 10:30pm, and 12:30am. We were there on the biggest night of the week (Wednesday), the slow nights are Thursday and Sundays (according to the waiter). Around midnight, the music started getting louder and the place was filling up with people, like the Titanic did with water. Bed goes OFF! My gosh we were dancing till closing (4am). It's expensive though. To give you an idea they charge $210 for a bottle of vodka? (Good thing I don't drink:-). It was tough waking up the next morning, but we had a pretty light day entertaining people. One of my jobs for the day was to take a group Jet Skiing (wave running). You know that's how I got my name right? I used to Jet Ski all the time, and I was nicknamed Johnny Jetski. When I started to travel a lot, I decided to change it to Johnny Jet (It just made sense, and Jetski made me sound Polish:-). We took a tour of the inter coastal and the port of Miami. It's awesome way to "get away".  The only problem was, the water was rough (and I used muscles I haven't used in years). I don't think I have ever been that sore. Really! It took four days for me to be able to sit on the pot pain free. We checked out of the Delano because we were flying out of Fort Lauderdalethe the next morning and I needed one more stay at a Hilton.  So you know where we checked in right?  I'm Gold baby.
Funny story for you: It was my first time departing from Fort Lauderdale airport in a long time, and we were running veeerry late, we could not find the Hertz return for the life of us (It's miles from the airport). When we finally made it, we had less than ten minutes to catch our flight. I was so sore I couldn't even walk, let alone run. AJ, too, but he checked his bags. It was almost a scene from a vietnam movie. AJ running down the hallways yelling hurry up, and I was hobbling saying "save yourself, I'll catch the next one". We'll we both made it.

TIP OF THE WEEK:   By Chris McGinnis
Coping with Carry-Ons (part II)
o If you must carry on a larger-than-average bag, get on the plane as early as possible. Overhead bins fill up fast--particularly during the cold winter months and the holidays.
o If you bring more than two carry-ons (the "official" limit on many carriers), put one bag inside another. Gate agents usually scrutinize the number of bags rather than bag dimensions. Typical airline dimensions allow one bag no larger than 9 x 14 x 22 inches (can fit under seats) and another bag 10 x 14 x 36 inches (can fit in overhead bin) or a garment bag 4 x 23 x 45 inches (can fit in closet). NOTE: A briefcase is considered a piece of carry-on luggage, while a woman's purse may not be.
o At the end of 1997, some airlines adopted a "1 plus" rule regarding carry-on bags, meaning that you are allowed one carry-on, plus a briefcase, purse, or laptop. Airlines are battling to reach a general consensus as to the number of carry-on bags each passenger is permitted. However, until an across-the-board decree is dispatched by the Federal Aviation Administration, the issue will remain frustratingly vague and unresolved.
o Pack your bags with the possibility of having to check them in mind. With airlines and flight attendants scrutinizing carry-ons more than ever, you may be forced to gate-check your bag. In that case, be sure that your valuables and any electronic gear are in the bag you carry on the plane. The best part about gate checking is that bags are usually waiting by the plane door as you exit--not at the delay-prone baggage carousel. However, this is not always the case: always ask if your gate-checked bag will be waiting for you as you exit the plane or in the baggage claim area.

Weather Pros:
Wrong Way Rainbows If you didn't know: rainbows tend to show up AFTER the passage of a storm occurs along our planet's middle latitudes - where storms generally travel from west to east.
How-some-ever, in the tropical zones, where storms generally travel from east to west, rainbows are most often seen BEFORE a storm arrives. And don't THAT bend yer spoons?

On May 1, The Frequent Flyer Mile Turned 20
The frequent flyer mile, created by American Airlines, turns 20 on May 1. In the United States alone, there are about 71 million frequent flyer members. Curiously, more and more miles are being earned for activities other than flying, though miles earned through flights still account for 57 percent of all miles earned. Bonuses account for another 13 percent.
A businessman recently earned a record 23 million miles by paying for commercial postage on his affinity credit cards. Credit card charges account for 11 percent of all miles earned. Programs affiliated with telephone services account for seven percent of our miles, car rentals for 2.9 percent and hotels for 2.8 percent.
There are an estimated 3.5 trillion miles outstanding among all frequent flyer programs.
