WHERE'S JOHNNY JET ?
Didn't have a chance to read last week's newsletter? Click here!
Sorry about the delay in the newsletters, I'm finally catching up since having my old laptop crash.  Last week's newsletter ended in Kentucky and from there we (My Dad and brother) departed our seperate ways.  I flew to Chicago and when I arrived my cell phone rang and guess who it was?  That's right, my brother telling me he too was in ORD (He jumped on an earlier American flight to NY and it was re-routed through Chicago.)  Frank had an hour to kill before his next flight and I had two hours before Amber Airplane arrived from Denver.  Therefore, we met in between the United and American gates, where the airport has a great children's playground .  It's an awesome place to take the little ones when you have a layover.  It's designed as a mini airport which will keep them busy for hours .
The highlight though was browsing the bookstore and flipping through Clark Howard's new book Get Clark Smart.  On page 176,  under 'Booking Travel Online' was JOHNNY JET!  He wrote a whole paragraph on us stating it's the "Ultimate Travel Encyclopedia!"  How cool is that?  Thanks Clark!

Chicago was a lot of fun, as usual, and I stayed four nights with my cousins in the North Shore.  My cousin's Sasha and Sheridan took good care of me with some good ol'  home cooking.  I think I gained about five pounds, but I know I lost them running to my gate on my way get back to LA.

I was in L.A. for a week working and celebrating two holidays.  The first one was a sad one for because it was Mother's Day .  I went to church to say my prayers and I was doing fine until they showed a video at the end of mass with all the little kids telling why their Mother is so great.  Then they said to go home and give your Mom a hug and tell her how much you love her.  At that moment, I couldn't even move my body, except to swallow the lump in my throat.  But something came over me and I realized there's no need to be so sad because my Mom was probably sitting right next to me and she knows how much I love her.

The other event was a happy one.  Thursday the 16th, Amber and I celebrated our 2 (TWO) year anniversary.  We originally met on Flight 21 from JFK-LAX.   It's a long story but it's almost like a fairy tale, one day I will share it with you.  Anyway, what better way to celebrate than to fly somewhere together?  So I accompanied her on a flight to Chicago because she had to go to work.  After lunch in ORD, she went to work and I went to LGA , to go home and see my Dad.

What's up with the weather on the East Coast?  I got off the plane and it was 75 degrees, I woke up the next morning and I was freezing my you know what off.  I turn on the radio and they said it stopped raining and snowing.  SNOWING?  Did they say snow?  It was May 18 and I was going to be a prisoner of the house because I forgot to bring my winter jacket.

Well, it slowly warmed up and I went for a walk around town with my Dad and my sister .  The scenery was very cool and tranquil , this is the beach where I spent my summers growing up.  Here's a quick tip if your visiting New England this summer.  Do smell the poppy's , but stay away from the shiny stuff, it's  ivy. You touch it and you will be itching and miserable for a few days.

GOOD TO KNOW!
>From CoolTravelMail
"What is meant by the different travel classes? Example: "Y," "Q," "I," etc. And where do you find this info???"

"Basically, the codes are used to distinguish among various types of fares, each of which has different terms and conditions attached to it. For example, a "Y" fare is usually a "full economy" fare, with no advance-purchase requirements, sometimes known as a walk-up fare because it is often used by business travelers who don't have the luxury of planning their trips in advance. Full fares allow for itinerary changes with no extra charges for reissuing the ticket. And the ticket can be "endorsed" to another airline, allowing the traveler to change airlines if necessary. All this flexibility comes at a price: these are the very highest-priced tickets for travel in coach.

"At the other end of the spectrum are the various discount or promotional fares, which have restrictions associated with them. They must be purchased in advance (e.g., seven, 14, or 21 days in advance). In some cases, a Saturday night stay is required (to prevent business travelers from using these cheaper fares). Schedule changes may be subject to a hefty change fee. And the tickets are non-endorsable and non-refundable. In spite of the restrictions, these are the fares most of us actually use."

I went on to say that I wasn't aware of any single source for this information, and suggested that consumers simply have to all the airline if they have a question about a particular fare code (whether, for example, it is a fare that allows mileage accrual).

After spending some time surfing the Web, I can now suggest an online resource for more information on this topic: Click . You'll still have to address specific fares questions directly to the airlines, but this website includes a very good introduction  to the subject.
