>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>WHERE'S JOHNNY JET?<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Greetings from South Dakota! I just arrived and will have pictures in next week's newsletter from here and 3 other States! In the mean time I do have a funny story that can't wait till next week. I had a 6 am flight out of LaGuardia to get here. I set my alarm for 4:45am (That's reeeaaaal early for me).  When it went off I jumped out of bed like there was a fire and turned the shower on (out of habit). Then I thought: It's too early to take a shower, I'll just throw a Johnny Jet hat on. I was out the door and at LaGaurdia by 5:20am. I walked right on the 727 airplane and to my dismay these 2 guys who were sitting in front of me STUNK so bad, I almost asked to be moved. I get to Chicago's O'Hare airport and go right to the red carpet club. There the lady at the check-in counter had the worst BO (body odor) that I almost lost my appetite. Then I board a United Express jet which was pretty cool, but tiny (If you are over 6 feet tall you have to duck).  The 50 passenger plane was packed to go to Sioux Falls (can you believe that? A representative from UA Express says it's one of their most popular destinations from Chicago).  I get on the plane and the dude in a suit and tie sitting next to me smelled like a NYC cabbie. I'm telling you it was so awful, that the lady in front of me literally took out her perfume and sprayed it in the air (choking me and others). Too top it off we were (get this) number FORTY TWO (42) for take-off!  When we were finally airborne I went to use the bathroom. The bathroom was so small I could not even lift my head, I had to bend it all the way down to it was almost in my armpit. THEN I REALIZED!  It could be me where that stink was coming from. I was horrified, my face turned red, and I just kept sniffing, and sniffing.  I thought to myself, is it me? Is it me? I quickly took my shirt off and done something I never done before: I took a sponge bath in the bathroom of an airplane. I envisioned walking out of the bathroom to a standing ovation. I went back to my seat and it was still stinky, so I'm not completely positive it was me.
Enough about the stink. I started this past week off at a Mexican restaurant in NYC for happy hour. From there we walked a few blocks to China Town. This was my first time there in a long time, and now I know why. It was dirty, smelly, and the shopping was lame (but they do sell one of my favorite fruits on the streets: Lychees!). They are so tasty, and I thought the only places I could get them were Hong Kong and Hilo. I was wrong!

The city as expected was hot and humid, so when ever we had some free time, Amber and I would take a walk around Central Park. In the park you never know who or what you might run into: (ie. super friendly Squirrels and a friend of mine who appears to be the first pregnant man.)
When the weekend rolled around we took the train out to CT to see my Pops. My Dad needed some bandaging because some knuckle head left the running machine on at 3.5 mph at the YMCA. Since my dad is deaf and doesn't pay too much attention he went flying when he stepped on. We tried cheering him up by taking him out to dinner to Rowayton Pizza with Georgette, Cam, Frank, and Pascha. Since that didn't do it we went to South Beach and hung out on the wall.
The rest of the weekend we spent at the beach laying out and playing hoop. It was too bad it was low tide because I really wanted to jump in the water and take the sweat off before my morning flight to South Dakota :-).

Q> Do you have a site? Or can you direct me to a site/sites that cover these new deregulated air lines that service  many  european airports, like easyjet, crossair, air intra, and any others?
A> Easy, just click this link and scroll to the bottom category: EUROPEAN BUDGET AIRLINES. One of my other favorite inter Europe sites is:
http://www.europebyair.com/. Here you can buy one way tickets for $99 each. It's cheaper than the train, and a lot faster (obviously).

TIP OF THE WEEK:   By Chris McGinnis
What to Do When the Weather Does Not Cooperate
In most places, there will be times when Mother Nature just doesn't want to cooperate with your travel plans. So when a winter storm--or summer hurricane--is looming or in full force, keep these tips in mind.
If it is already looking fierce outside, call before you leave for the airport and find out what the status is for your flight. Call your travel agent or the airline's automated arrivals and departure line, or visit the airline's Web site, if available. Don't call the airline's toll-free reservations number for updates--you could be put on hold too long.
Keep your eye on the local news or the Weather Channel, or go to the Web site at www.weather.com or cnn.com/weather to find out if a storm is brewing in your area or destination. If bad weather looks likely, you may not want to leave for the airport until you've checked on your flight.
If you are already at the airport and departure looks unlikely, try to make a reservation at a nearby hotel that offers free shuttle service. Don't wait too long, because airport hotels get booked up as fast as the flights are cancelled.
If it is absolutely essential that you make an out-of-town meeting or presentation when bad weather looms, consider leaving the night before. It is also wise to take a cab or public transportation to the airport if a winter storm is a possibility, so you don't have to worry about digging your car out of the snow.
Bring a snack along in the event that the airport food leaves something to be desired--or worse, in case the airport runs out of food (which has happened during unexpected storms). A bagel, pretzels, or dried fruits and nuts are nutritious, don't spoil, and don't take up a lot of space.
Weather emergencies usually allow for airlines to relax rules when rerouting, changing, or cancellation fees are concerned.

Summer Safety Tips For Climbers & Hikers   (From Bestfares)
Thorough preparation and sound judgment are essential to travelers planning vacations that involve hiking or climbing. REI Adventures, established in 1938 by a group of 23 Pacific Northwest mountaineers seeking climbing equipment, began as a consumer cooperative and retained its emphasis as it grew to the nation's largest consumer cooperative with more than 1.8 million active members.

REI operates 60 retail stores in 24 states and Japan; three online stores (www.rei.com, www.rei-outlet.com and www.rei.co.jp) and an adventure travel company, REI Adventures. Here are tips from their experts on essential items, each designed to help you enjoy nature without taking undue risk.

A topographic map in a waterproof case should accompany you on any trip that involves anything more than an impossible-to-miss footpath or well-populated nature trail.
A compass, plus an optional GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) receiver can help you stay on course in the backcountry.
Conditions can abruptly turn wet, windy or frigid in the backcountry. Consider carrying a wool or fleece cap, fleece jacket or pile sweater and a waterproof shell or compressible parka. Avoid cotton since it won't keep you warm when it gets wet
Always pack at least one extra day's worth of food, especially no-cook items: energy bars, nuts, dried fruits and jerky. The process of digesting food helps keep your body warm.
Every first-aid kit should include moleskin (for blisters), adhesive bandages of various sizes, several gauze pads, adhesive tape, disinfecting ointment, over-the-counter pain medication, pen and paper.
A headlamp or flashlight (with extra batteries) is invaluable. Keep your light in an easily accessible section of your pack.
Matches should be the waterproof variety or should be stored in a waterproof container.
Possible fire starters include kindling and candles. Even lint will work in a pinch.
Knives or multi-tools are handy for gear repair, food preparation, first aid or other emergency needs.
Wear protective glasses, particularly when traveling above treeline, to reduce your exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. Select lenses that absorb 97- to 100-percent of UVA and UVB radiation.
The Mayo Clinic recommends applying sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher 15 minutes before going out in the sun. The clinic also advises the use of sunscreen-fortified lip balm.
Rushing streams and alpine lakes appear to contain the clearest, freshest water on earth. Yet sometimes they harbor microscopic pathogens. Filters and purifiers can clean the water with minimal fuss.
Carry a whistle. The sound travels farther than your voice and will also last longer.
