Back in L.A.!  This week the NBTA's (National Business Travel Association) conference was in my back yard. I was fortunate enough to attend, meet some very cool people, and check out the latest and greatest travel technology. In this week's newsletter, I have included some pictures for you to get a better feel for the convention. Since, I am fascinated with travel the trade show floor was like a candy store to me twenty years ago.  Every possible travel related company attended (from charter companies, to software companies, to Tourist Boards, and of course every airline, hotel, and car rental company). The booths were amazing, some had stages set up (one even had a the game show: "who wants to be a millionaire", with a look a like Regis) and were as big as a city block. Others were as small and plain as my neighbors bathroom. What I thought was cool, was that a lot of the airlines brought in actual seats from the planes.
With the Concorde getting so much attention lately, I took a stroll over to the British Airways booth to find out what was going on.  This picture is for those of you who always wondered what the actual seat is like on the Concorde.  I got to tell you, I was a bit disappointed, for $10,000 round trip, I much rather spend the extra time in a 747-400 and chill in a seat like this from Cathay Pacific.

For those of you who have been to conventions, you might be able to relate to my funny story. At most conferences some generous sponsor hires masseuses to give the attendees 5-10 minute mini massages.  Some words of wisdom: "if a masseuse offers a free massage do not say NO!  They set up an open booth right, smack in the middle of the convention center. I was kind of embarrassed to get a massage in front of everyone (because I like a little privacy, and just in case I fall asleep and drool :-).   I figured it was early and there were not too many people around and my back and neck were killing me. As I am getting this awesome back and neck massage the trade show busses pull up and hundreds of people are now cruising by.  I can hear the steps (even with headphones on), they get louder, and louder, and I pictured a deployment of troops getting positioned for war.  I sense everyone is walking by the booth and checking me out, I can just feeeeel the eyeballs. I thought to myself "who cares no one is going to be looking over here and how are they going to know it's me (just because I have a Johnny Jet logo on my shirt)".  As the lady begins to wrap up my 10 minute massage, she starts giving me the kung fu, karate chops on my back. You know how it sounds, dunt,dunt, dunt......  Then she opens up her hands and starts smacking my back hard with her hands cupped. I have to tell you, it felt good, but it was so loud (because the ceiling above was hollow and it echoed) it sounded like I was being caned in Singapore.

The Best Beaches In America
According To Environmentalists & Dr. Beach
The best beach in America might be, on any given day, the one you can get to. Those with reason to make a study of beaches spend a lot of time selecting their favorites.
Here are two lists-- the Top 10 urban beaches selected by the Surfrider Foundation, an international foundation dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's oceans, waves and beaches, and the Top Five beaches selected by Florida International University's Stephen Leatherman, known as Dr. Beach.

The Surfrider list includes two Florida beaches--Miami Beach's South Beach and Panama City Beach; three California Beaches--East Beach in Santa Barbara, Newport Beach and Main Beach in Santa Cruz; plus Honolulu's Waikiki, Myrtle Beach (SC), South Padre Island (TX), Cape May (NJ) and Seaside Beach (OR).

Dr Beach likes Hawaii, including four Hawaii Island beaches among  his favorites: Kaunaoa Beach, Poipu Beach Park, Hanalei Beach  and Kaanapali. St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, Florida completes  his Top Five.
