Greetings from the Peachy State! I am in Atlanta this week for the eye for travel conference.   When I arrived at Hartsfield Airport, I decided to venture out from the norm, and save some money.  I took a $1.50 train ride (rather than spending $32 for a taxi or $18 for a shuttle van) on Georgia's very own: marta.  Marta is very easy, the airport station is right above the taxi stand, and is safe (I don't advise taking it at night though). It's above ground, and takes about 30 min. to downtown.  My stop was Buckhead (40 minutes by marta, 25 min by taxi), where 2 blocks away was the host hotel (Sheraton).
    This conference was a lot different from the one I attended in early August (remember all those crazy airline seat pics?).  For one thing, it was a lot smaller 350 people, compared to 4,000. That's a good thing, because it was a lot easier to meet people (and that's what I did!). The speakers they had were first rate, they came from around the world, and from all sorts of online travel companies.  They had a lot of the big players, like Priceline (I had lunch with the President), Travelocity (hung out with the Senior VP), Disney (told the VP I will be there in 2 weeks, and to give Mickey the heads up).  I learned a lot about all their companies, and many others (especially the exhibitors).  Just to give you an idea what one of the sessions I attended looked liked: Click here.
    One of the best parts about the conference was the socializing. They had great events and parties which encouraged networking. I really met some great people, from some cool companies. Here is my good friend Nick (from Smarterliving.com), and my girl Amber. One of the highlights of the trip, was taking the Party Bus to the baseball game to Turner Field (you know I am trying to go to every baseball stadium in America). Here we are in the bleacher seats showing off our Johnny Jet tattoos. You don't think I would go to a ball game, and forget to give the ticket lady a tattoo, do you?
A special thanks to First Conferences for giving me a press pass, and to their friendly staff (from London) who put this event on (they did a wonderful job).  Right before catching marta back to the airport, I had an awesome lunch at a great restaurant, called Bluepointe. I went with one of my long time travel idols~ Chris McGinnis, and my friend Tom.
    Before flying down to Atlanta, I was in NYC attending my cousin Sasha's wedding.  It was at the Essex House, and was awesome. He we are walking down the street in our tux's from the Church to the reception (my brother, and buddies Don, and Kevin (People Magazines Top 50 Bachelor's).  Here is a picture of My Mom, My Cousin A.J. and his band: Element (these guys are going to be HUGE). They are so good and cool. Three of them were on the tv show Making Of The Band.  By the way, look who I ran into at the wedding, that's right one of the skygirls, they everywhere!

Every frequent traveler should aim for membership in the hallowed elite levels of airline programs. Why? When you get into elite levels, the airlines treat you as a TRUE frequent flyer -- not just someone who has filled out a membership application. As an elite member, you get r-e-s-p-e-c-t. Concentrating your patronage with only one or two airlines will get you to the "elite" levels of membership much faster. Most airlines offer basic elite membership to those members who fly at least 25,000 miles per year.

• Periodically, some airlines will give "trial" or "transfer" elite status to members of other airline's elite program. All you have to do is provide proof that you're an elite member of another program. Airlines normally don't publicize this, so you must call the airline's service center and ask.

Safety Reminders For Family Travel By Car

• Use car seats that are safety approved and fit your child. Make sure it is secured properly in your vehicle. Infants should always face the rear, a position that can protect them from neck and spinal cord injuries. Children in the back seats of vehicles are generally safest. Smaller children can be situated in the middle of the back seat, away from the biggest air bag impact.
• Don't travel with more passengers than your vehicle can safely accommodate. It's better to rent a larger vehicle than risk your safety.
• Take what you need to make the trip enjoyable, but stow heavier items in the trunk (if your vehicle has one). Better, for example, to have a styrofoam cooler in the car, than a heavyweight cooler; drinks in plastic containers, rather than glass. Should you suffer a collision there will be less danger from airborne objects.
• If any member of your family needs attention, pull over to a safe spot and stop. If you try to mediate disputes, mop up spills or tend to other needs that distract you from driving, you're placing your family in harm's way.
• Don't leave your children in the car when you make quick stops. Even if you're just running into the gas station to pay your bill, take them with you unless there is a responsible adult or older child in the car.
• Even if your weekend trip is a short drive to a neighborhood cookout, observe the same safety standards as on long trips. Keep in mind that 70 percent of all automobile crashes happen at low speed and close to home.
