Greetings from the East Coast. This week has been crazy busy. First
of all I learned HTML (thanks to Daniel). Be sure to checkout the PORTAL
because it is being updated all the time! There are all sorts of
new links from listening to air traffic control to airline partners, we
even have a new virtual
community.
My Itinerary this week was LAX-ORD-STL-ORD-LGA.
First stop was to pick up Amber in Chicago, then we flew to St. Louis for
my buddy Peirson's
wedding. This was my first trip there, and I have to tell you~
it was a great time. The first night we (I spent the weekend with
some of my child
hood friends, Tim & Jen Hartog and Jason & Josie (soon
to be) Diamandis) made it to a Cardinal's
game. I hate to admit it (I'm a die hard Yankee fan) but these
guys are probably the best fans around. I mean 9 out of 10 people were
wearing red Cardinal jersey's (what are they nuts?). After the game we
went to Union
Station which is a pretty neat place in itself. It has a lot of
restaurants, stores, and was close to our hotel: the Dreary Inn, I mean
the Drury Inn.
The main attraction in St. Louis as we all know is the Arch
(historical and architectural
overview.) I didn't realize how big it is, it's 630 feet (the Statue
of Liberty is 305, and the Eiffel Tower is 984 ft). I also did not realize
you can go up it. For $7, you can take a capsule up either side, that's
right a capsule.
If your claustrophobic don't even think about it. It's 4 feet high, fits
5 people, has no windows, and your are connected to 7 other capsules. I
am a bit claustrophobic and a tad afraid of heights, but I decided to take
one for the team, and go up it. I am so glad I did, because to my surprise
it really wasn't that bad. The tram takes four minutes to get up to the
top, and the views
from up there are spectacular.
Sunday was a marathon day for me. I was up at 6:15, and took another
"train to the plane". St.
Louis also has a train stopping at the airport (I'm a huge fan of these
time and money savers), what a deal $1.25, instead of a $40 taxi. Took
a 45 minute flight to Chicago, and planned on staying for a few days. The
weather was absolutely gorgeous, it felt like summer with the temperature
hovering above 80 degrees. Everybody was running, walking, or laying out
on the lake, and we
were no different. Unfortunately, I didn't stay very long, because at 7:30
I got a phone call informing me my Mom was in the hospital with a high
fever. Within 90 minutes, I was on the last flight out to NY. Thank God
My Mom
is doing better, but she will be in the hospital for a while and so will
I.

Here are some tips and information on avoiding the well-know trip spoiler,
jet-lag.
Natural light help reset your body's rhythms to the local time. Sleep
with the curtains open so the natural morning light will wake you; try
to work in rooms with windows, and take plenty of outdoor walks.

GOOD TO KNOW!
According to the latest United Nations count, there are 188
countries in the world. But then, if you really want to be boastful,
you can go by the Travelers' Century Club, which lists 313.
The TCC, established in Los Angeles in 1954, bills itself as a social organization whose members must have visited 100 or more "countries" in the world. What boosts the TCC country count is the fact that it includes Alaska, Hawaii, the San Blas Islands of Panama and the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, among many other places, as separate entities. Among the approved "countries" in the Pacific Ocean that will send you scurrying to an atlas are Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island, Tokelau Islands and Nauru.
Travelers interested in joining can write to the TCC at P.O. Box 7050,
Santa Monica, CA 90406, or phone 310-939-7419. Or they can find the TCC's
country list on its Web site at www.travelerscenturyclub.org. The club's
initiation fee is $100, and annual dues are $25.
