>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>WHERE'S JOHNNY JET?<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Greetings from SoCal!  I'm still here and loving it!   We start off this week's journey with a day trip to Catalina Island with my Dad.
My father had never been there and always wanted to go, so I bought some tickets at Catalina Express and we were off.  My cousin Arty was driving and our friend Dawn was bar tending, what else could you ask for?  Forty-five minutes later, we were walking around the island.
As I wrote last time I was there, the most famous building in Avalon (the main city) is the Casino building.  My Dad saw "Casino" and got real excited.  He made this Jack O'Lantern smile and says, "There's a casino on this island?"  He was walking so slow I decided to play along and said, "Yeah you didn't know that?"  Well, that boy started to move.  When he realized there wasn't any casino he laughed and said, "You got me."   We weren't there long but it was relaxing.  We walked around the beach, hung out with the seagulls, and got back on the boat.  We just about arrived in Long Beach when my cousin Arty called me on my cell and said look to your left.  There he was on the bow going back out.

The next day, my Dad went back to Connecticut and Amber arrived from Chicago.  (It's like a revolving door.)  We drove down to San Diego to attend her Father's retirement ceremony from the Navy.  It was definitely a great experience.  I mean how many people get to board a U.S. Battleship during war time?  Security was tight as expected, we all got frisked and escorted onto the ship.  I got to meet the other half of her family, including her hilarious Uncle Scott.  It was a really touching ceremony.  Her father was in the Navy for 24 years and they presented all the family members individually with an award, thanking them for their continued support of their loved one and the Navy. One line read: "Although you might not wear a Navy uniform, you are a member of the Navy family".  Her father went out saluting.  Side Note: I wouldn't want to mess with this guy.

Amber and I rushed back to L.A. to catch a red-eye to New York to attend my Mom's anniversary mass when my Dad called and demanded I not go.  He thought it was too dangerous to fly that route because of the weekend terrorist threat and that my Mom would rather me stay in L.A. and play in the annual LMU lacrosse game.  I had mixed emotions on not going but hey you have to respect your elders.
That night Amber and I scrambled to find outfits to go to a Hollywood party in the hills.  We celebrated my buddy Adam's 30th  (He doesn't really look like this, it was a Rock Star and Groupie theme party.)

Saturday morning I got up and drove to my Alma Mater, Loyola Marymount University.  It was great to see a lot of old friends, but we were out dueled by the young guns.  Oh well!  At least I got to exercise.

Sunday was my Mom's anniversary and  to celebrate, I thought it was fitting to go out and see a good friend of mine from Marymount College; Sister Gregory.  My Mom was always fond of Sister Gregory and she has been a great comfort for me knowing she is always praying for her.

Let's play a game...
One of these couples are having a baby, guess which one! (Answer at bottom)

BTW: How about them Yankees!

TIP OF THE WEEK:   By Chris McGinnis
On- or Off-Airport Parking
If you decide to forego public transportation to the airport because you would rather drive and park yourself, it pays to know all your options. Most on-airport lots are run by municipal governments and offer the basics--a close-in parking space--but not much else.

If you'd like to add bells and whistles to your parking experience, try the new breed of off-airport lot springing up on the perimeter of airports across the country. To entice customers away from on-airport lots, these small businesses offer frequent parker programs, car washes, tune-ups, laundry service, and other creative extras.

The best part about off-airport lots is that most have shuttles that follow you to your parking space, pick you (and your bags) up, and drop you off at the front door of the airport--no schlepping bags through a large, dark--or worse, rainy--parking lot. And most offer corporate programs for high-volume customers.
Another option: many airport hotels and car rental companies provide parking not only for usual customers, but for local parkers as well.
