JET?<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
I'm speechless. I still can't believe the Yankees
lost, because I thought it was meant to be, but I guess it wasn't.
I just wanted one more championship! Oh well, the good news is I did get
to take in a game at Yankee
Stadium. Yeah Baby! The World Series! My brother
and his buddy Sean treated me to game 5. (which was the last game of the
year at the
stadium,
and the first game ever for MLB in November!) What a great
experience,
except the fact that my bro made me leave in the bottom
of the ninth with two outs so we would avoid traffic. What
a mistake! Wouldn't you know right when I walked
out, Brosius hit the miracle homer. I turned around and tried to
re-enter but security wouldn't let me. I was so ticked, yet happy.
Anyway, I was lucky to go and I can't be upset with Frank because if it
wasn't for him I wouldn't of been there anyway.
Only in NY: During the moment of silence you
could hear a pin drop until some dude yells "FREEDOM!", and then from the
other side someone else yells A--HOLE!
That wasn't the only sporting event I went to this week. I visited
Madison
Square Garden to see the Rangers
play the Dallas Stars. If you want to go to a game just show
up 5 minutes before it starts and scalp a ticket. I did, because I needed
an extra ticket for my Dad and it only cost $20. The face value was $45,
not bad, huh?. It was a great night not only because the Rangers
won, but Amber and I made it on the big
screen. Tip: Eat at Ranch 1 instead of the other concession stands
in the Garden.
Halloween was my favorite holiday growing up, and the big reason was
for where we lived. Connecticut really brings out the best of October
31st. Walking down our street you can just smell all the leaves, it's hard
to explain but trick or treating in New England is really a great experience.
Amber
and I carved pumpkins,
then took my niece and nephew trick
or treating. We had so much fun! It was just like the old
days except slower because we stopped and chatted with all the neighbors.
My sister, brother-in-law, brother,
his girlfriend and my Pops joined us to make it a fantastic night.
Our lane is really dark and spooky because there are no street lights and
watch out for all kinds of characters including this 3
headed witch. When it was all done Uncle Johnny Jet had to test
all the goodies
just too make sure they weren't laced :-).
Friday afternoon I attended Business Traveler Magazine's (See Website
of the Week) annual Travel
Awards at the Plaza Hotel in NYC. It was a great chance
to run into old
friends (Jackie works for BT), and meet a lot of new ones!
Including the NYPD
and Queen
Noor! Not to mention eat a fine meal and find out who won the top
awards for the travel industry. Most people have to wait until January
to find out who won, but since I was there I can tell you the big winner
was Singapore Airlines for best overall airline and United for best Frequent
Flier Program. Congratulations!

TIP OF
THE WEEK:
By Chris
McGinnis
QUESTION:
I am a Travel Administrator . We have always used a corporate
travel agent to book our corporate travel. However, due to the September
11th Tragedy, our agent increased our service fees to $25.00 per ticket
plus $25.00 to do an exchange or a void. Needless to say, our management
is not very happy with these increased costs, even though it's beyond the
travel agent's control.
Last year, based on a $15.00 per ticket service fee, our company spent
$19,000 in service fees. They want me to now book everything on the
internet. We have over 35 travelers that I book travel for during
the week. Booking travel on the internet for 3 or 4 people is okay,
but for a large group it's extremely time-consuming and difficult.
Do you know of any other options for saving money while booking corporate
travel? I've tried MYOBTravel.com and do not like it - it's not user-friendly
at all. All travel agencies seem to be charging fees. Is there
a corporate website that is user-friendly who will let you store each employee
profile and securely store their credit cards?
Thank you, Norma W
ANSWER FROM CHRIS:
My advice to this lady would be to tell her to gently insist
that travelers wanting to avoid travel agency fees start booking their
own travel on airline sites, or MYOB (which is designed for travelers to
make their own bookings, not the travel administrator). The reality of
the situation regarding the evolving role of travel agents is that with
declining airline commissions, there is no free lunch. Business travelers
are going to have to pay good money for the luxury of using travel agents,
or they are going to have to do the work themselves.

When Airlines Go Bust, Where Do Your Miles
Go?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
All the airlines have been staggered. Some will probably never recover.
What can frequent flyers do to protect their miles in the event their
airline doesn't have what it takes to get through these trying times? Should
they do anything at all? Hard-to-answer questions. We explore some options
at http://frequentflier.com/ff101801.htm
