JET?<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Hello from chilly L.A.! This week has been
packed with nothing but good times. It started out by Amber taking
me to Universal
Studios, what's great about going this time
of year is that there is NO
waiting in long lines:-) Why no long
lines? One reason is who wants to go down the Jurassic
Park log ride in the cold, and get soaking wet, I mean soaking (as
you can see we purchased panchos for 75 cents). Another good reason to
go now is that they had the Grinch's Snow
Slide, and don't forget about my friend Xena
chasing after you.
After a short stay in L.A. I took a quick 45
minute flight over to Vega$ to celebrate my Dad's Birthday. Here
we are outside of the new Aladdin
Hotel. This place is awesome! The shopping
arcade blows away Caesers, which I thought was pretty phat (cool). We met
up with my Brother, and had a great afternoon- working out at the Bellagio
Hotel. To workout there cost $25 (seems steep,
but it's well worth it), and you need to be a hotel guest. Everything is
so clean, and new. They gave us our own lockers, complete with sandals
for the shower (who wants athlete's foot), a robe, and plenty of towels.
After pumping some iron for an hour, we changed into our birthday suits,
hit the showers, steam room, sauna, and hot tubs (they were all different
temperatures, I would guess 104, 98, 88, 60). Then we lounged around
in our robes watching t.v., chatting, and drinking all the fresh
juices we wanted. You know there's nothing like a nice tall glass of fresh
squeezed pineapple juice after a good workout.
Next stop was the casino, I found my Dad and
sixteen of is friends (from CT ) gathered around the craps table. My dad
squeezed my brother and me in, and we started to roll, and I mean roll
baby!. I held the dice for over 53 minutes without rolling a 7. It was
so great, I had the whole table chanting "John ny Jet,
Johnny Jet...". Needless to say we all won a good amount of money, and
ate a nice big dinner with our winnings.
The 20 hours I spent in Vega$ felt like a week,
we did so much.
I was able to talk my brother and Dad into coming
home with me (it wasn't too tough because they won) Here is a pic
of my bro counting his $, at the hotel's Airline
Check In. They arrived for one of the
best nights of the year in L.A. The Manhattan
Beach Christmas Fireworks. If you will be
in L.A. next december make sure you stop by M.B. It's usually the second
Sunday in Dec, and begins early (4-7pm). The streets are filled with everyone
singing x-mas carols, and the fireworks are awesome (even though each time
one went off, I said "ooh, aaaahh, and thought to myself
"I betcha I paid for that one with last months parking ticket."
Besides having a great time this week, I did do a lot of work. Check

TIP OF
THE WEEK:
By Chris

Use Frequent Flier Miles to "Buy" High-Priced
Tickets
Using your frequent flier miles to around high fares is getting more
difficult. For example, Continental now requires a Saturday night stayover
when redeeming the basic 25,000-mile reward for a free round trip. If you
want to travel in midweek or during a "blackout" period, you'll have to
redeem closer to 40,000 miles. With frequent flier miles roughly valued
at about 2 cents each, it only makes sense to redeem 40,000 miles if the
fare you would otherwise pay exceeds about $800.

Airline Delays and Packing Anxieties
- Two Hot Holiday Travel Topics in New Fodor's Survey
Majority of American Travelers Sit and Sip When Delays Hit
With the holiday season upon us and delays inevitable, Fodor's asked
more than 1,000 American travelers what they most often do when stuck in
an airport.
The survey, conducted for Fodor's by NFO, found that the majority of
delayed travelers (51%) said that they choose to share their waiting time
with a beverage (alcoholic and non-). Other responses included eating,
conducting business, exercising, making phone calls, reading, and shopping.
Although the beverage choice was top for everyone, other top responses
break down differently for men and women:
Men Women
Have a drink 51% Have a drink 51%
Eat Hot Dog/Hamburger 11% Read 11%
Read 10% Eat Pizza 7.3%
Eat Local Cuisine 9% Eat Ice Cream/Candy 7.1%
Eat Pizza 8% Eat Local Cuisine 6.6%
Eat Ice Cream/Candy 5% Eat Hot Dog/Hamburger 6%
Eat Popcorn 2% Eat Popcorn 2%
Visit Gift Shops 1% Visit Gift Shops 1.2%
The remaining respondents are divided, using the time to make phone
calls, talk to others, exercise, conduct business, and just plain old WAIT
... believe it or not, there are those who are content to simply wait.
When age and marital status are broken out, the differences are intriguing.
The largest group who choose to eat pizza while delayed are males under
the age of 34 (12%). Young women under 34 are the biggest fans of ice cream
and candy (11%, nearly double the average!). More men over 55 (17%) opt
for a burger; while about the same number of 55+ women choose to read.
Where's My Toothbrush? I Know I Packed It Somewhere
Nearly everyone suffers from packing anxiety at one time or another,
and some travelers feel that packing during the holidays is even more stressful
than at other times of the year.
For those who fret that they're going to forget an irreplaceable item,
have no fear; according to the survey, the number one item that doesn't
make it into the suitcase is the very replaceable toothbrush. In fact,
28% of the travelers surveyed (30% of men and 26% of women) report that
they've forgotten it more than any other item. The largest group of people
to forget their scrubber are men under 34, almost 40%! Perhaps this is
why toothbrush sales in hotel sundries stores is such big business.
PJs are the other basic often left behind with 20% of travelers claiming
that they've slept without their beloved jammies. Interestingly, the groups
that forget them the most are single females (26%) and males over 55 (31%).
Is there something going on that we don't know about?
Hair care and beauty products also appear on the list; 16% of travelers
forget to pack their potions and lotions. Other personal items include
socks/stockings, 11%; shoes, 6%; underwear, 2%. Believe it or not, 5% of
travelers out there say that they don't forget anything. They must belong
to the group of people who actually make a list before they pack!
So, as you hit the road this travel season, remember: Santa isn't the
only one who should be making a list and checking it twice.
