Guadalajara Airport
I took a taxi to the airport at 5:45 a.m. for my 8:30 a.m. flight back to LAX. It took just 20 minutes to drive to the airport in the small, uncomfortable taxi—they reminded me of the ones in Malaysia. The cost was 190 pesos ($15 USD). The Guadalajara airport has just gone through a remodel and parts of it were really nice and a lot larger than I imagined. The place was hopping and the line for Mexicana's business class was longer than coach. In both lines the agents took way too long per passenger. I'm talking 5–10 minutes each.
Before getting to the counter they hand-searched checked luggage. After obtaining our boarding passes it was time to queue up in the long security line. It actually went out the door, but it looked worse than it really was—it took less than five minutes to clear, since passengers don't have to take shoes off or laptops out.
While waiting for my plane I browsed the shops—can you believe they wanted 66 pesos ($5 USD) for a small magnet? I grabbed a bottled water and muffin from Starbucks and waited patiently by my gate. I later got yelled at for taking this picture of the departure screen with my cell phone. Can someone please tell me what security risk taking pictures in an airport poses? I'm afraid Mexico has the same dumb rules as England when it comes to photography.
