Security was insane since all sorts of dignitaries were on hand including president Alvaro Uribe of Colombia; J. W. Marriott Jr. , chairman of Marriott International; Ricardo Poma, president of Grupo Poma; Bill Brownfield, the U.S. ambassador to Colombia; and the Bishop of Colombia, who blessed the hotel. There were multiple press conferences, which took place in two of the eight conference rooms.
